HCCC’S CRUSADERS GAME AGAINST CNHS’ MOTLEY CREW FOR BASKETBALL CHARITY

by Aile Caballes

The KanGara gymnasium was rocked yesterday by Holy Cross College of Carigara and Carigara National Highschool's basketball teams, as they played a charity game called "Bola mo, Pinaskohan ko" initiated by the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2022 of Holy Cross College of Carigara together with Future Business Executive Circle, to raise funds to help the families that are in need especially right now that we are in the middle of a pandemic. The game was played in front of an astonished crowd at the KanGara gymnasium and went on for three hours before the Carigara National Highschool "Motley Crew" Basketball team pulled ahead, 85-95. At exactly 1:30 pm, the Basketball game charity started with a prayer at KanGara gymnasium in Carigara. Led by one of Holy Cross College's greatest teachers, Mr. Arjoreco Avila, prayers were said before the national anthem was sung and the HCCC's anthem was led by Ma'am Regine O. Llames.

A retrospective by the HCCC's marching band was witnessed, followed by a few words delivered by Mr. Intramural's 4th runner-up Francis Villablanca about the opening remarks and statement of purpose of this event. Ms. Intramural's 2022 called on both teams to start playing basketball. Then another speech was delivered by Mr. Intramural 2022 Jayriel Liethon Esta to promote sportsmanship between those two basketball teams and Ms. Macky Cordero Dehayco, Ms. Itramural 2022, called for the match to begin. Before the game started we witnessed an intense warm-up exercise that both teams execute. While the game was in progress, students from the opposing school were seen cheering for their team. This was done to show their full support for their team, as well as their school. The first five of HCCC’s "Crusader" we're Jefferson Casaus, Arintok Andrei, Justin Dacoycoy, Tonyo Blanche Delacruz, and Biscante Richard Nazaren. While the first five on the opposing team were Mark Padoga, Julio Dabilbil, Kean Harvey Macalalag, Nicko Cagascas, and Vince Sonon.

“Nakukulba kami bago magtikang han uyag kay syempre dadamo an magkirita nga mga tawo. An strategy la namon nga gin gamit is gin-mandungan la namon hi Casaus kay baga hiya an na-score para ha ira team and team work lat namon. Maupay lat ha feelings nga nag-daog kami biskan pirmi kami rahol ha practice and nagpapasalamat lat kami ha amon coach nga nagtutok ha amon pag-practice”, commented Macalalag Kean Harvy, one of the best players of Motley Crew

The first 2 points go to HCCC, which was scored by Justin Dacoycoy. The scores in the first quarter were 23-16 and the HCCC was in the lead. But Cnhs recovered in the 2nd quarter so the score became 42-41, still in favor of the HCCC. During the time break, the Dance ensemble of the Holy Cross College of Carigara presented a fantastic dance presentation. Then in the 3rd quarter, the CNHS put a lot of effort into surpassing the HCCC basketball team and their team succeed so the result was 62-69, the CNHS was in the lead. The audience and students put effort to support their schools and a show downed was witnessed between one of the students in HCCC and CNHS. After that, the fourth quarter begins with loud cheers from the proud students. Then suddenly one of the best players of the CNHS got injured, Padoga during the 4th quarter. Padoga was playing the part of the center.

The HCCC "Crusaders" is trying to overcome the CNHS "Motley Crew" but the opposing team guards them well. The CNHS team's victory in this basketball charity game was a roaring success, with a final score of 85-95. The game was intense and hard-fought, but glory roared for the CNHS team as they pulled out the win.

“Pressured kami bago magstart an uyag and even though nga napirde kami, maupay la gihap it outcome han amon uyag tungod nga nagbubuligay kami and may chemistry ha usat usa” shared by one of the player of HCCC Basketball Team

Truly, a great initiative for the Intramural’s kings and queens to raise this outreach program with a good cause and a very enjoyable game with a purpose, having to extend Ms. Macky Dehayco’s advocacy for sports during the Intramurals the queen’s activeness during this basket charity shares her thoughts, “Para po adto maka share kita hin joy through gift givin since it's Christmas season na and at the same time makag enjoy liwat an kabataan or ma inspire hera na mag engage ha sports. Tomorrow magaganap an gift giving ha Brgy. Baybay court. Together with the players po. We will be giving po 100 ka families mga noche buena groceries”.

The purpose of this Basketball Charity game is to give joy to everyone and to help others that are in need, especially right now that we are facing the pandemic. As Holy Crossians we need to accept this kind of defeat because we can't win everytime, sometimes we need to understand this kind of circumstances. Even though we lose, we can still give joy to those families that will be given the Noche Buenas and gifts. Look on the bright side, we had a great basketball game. We need to stop posting something on social media that we know can cause a bad impact in our school's and to ourselves. Christmas is the season of loving and sharing, not shaming, comparing, and violence.
