Holy Cross College of Carigara Inc. holds a three day Intramurals, which is held at the HCCCI’s campus grounds. During the third day of Intramurals, a thrilling basketball tournament took place, showcasing the passion of studentsfor the game. The basketball court was filled with a palpable enthusiasm as the players from different teams competed with great energy and determination. Basketball tournament was no exception, as four teams battled it out for the championship title.
The four teams are: Team 1: St. Anthony Transcenders, Team 2: St. Joseph Voyagers, Team 3: St. Roch Shepherdsand Team 4: St. Martin Growlers. Walking into the venue, one could feel the intense atmosphere. The cheers from the crowd reverberated through, creating an electric energy that fueled the players on the court.
The first game is between St. Anthony Transgenders and St. Joseph Voyagers. The first quarter of the game is in favor to St. Joseph Voyagers and maintained it up to the last quarter of the game. Having a final score of 67-62. Richard Biscante contributed 16 points and marked as the MVP of the game. The players as well as their proud teammates burst out of happiness as they celebrated their early victory, securing a spot to the final game.
The second game is now between St. Roch Shepherds and St. Martin Growlers. This is a suspenseful game, during the first quarter, it is in favor to St. Roch Shepherds, but because of resilience and the tactics of St. Martin Growlers, they took the advantage and advanced to the finals. Having a final score of 47-57. Peter Paul Madejas, marked as the MVP of the game gaining 17 points.
The championship match featured St. Joseph Voyagers and St. Martin Growlers. The game is divided into fourquarters, with the junior players (Grade 7-10) competing in the first quarter, and the seniors (Grade 11&12 and College)taking over from the second until the fourth quarter. In the first quarter, St. Joseph Voyagers had the upper hand, showcasing their skills and securing an advantage. However, as the game progressed, St. Martin Growlers gained momentum and dominated the second and third quarters. Despite this, the St. Joseph Voyagers emerged as the finals champion team, demonstrating their overall performance and ability to secure their victory. With the help of their collective efforts and strategic gameplay, it played a significant role to their success. Richard Biscante who earned 21 points, hailed as the Most Valuable Player of the final game.
“I’m so greatful that this oppurtunity came and I feel wonderful because I have done what my team is dreaming of” – Richard Biscante.
Despite of the nervousness that he felt, especially on his position as the point guard who leads the team, he still showed thattheir team will gain a sweet victory.
“Camaraderie doesn’t happen by accident; developing a strong sense of trust, accountability, and togetherness around team goals requires intentional effort”.
The HCCCI intramurals basketball tournament, and Richard Biscante’s triumph as the Finals MVP have reminded us once again why we love this game. From the adrenaline-filled moments of competition to the inspiring displays of sportsmanship, basketball continues to captivate and bring people together. As we look forward to future tournaments and the rising stars of the game, we can’t help but be grateful for the excitement and passion that basketball brings to our lives.
